To start with, What is a CRB? A credit reference bureau (CRB) is a company licenced by central bank of Kenya to collect, store and collate credit information on individuals and companies from different sources and provide the information in form of a credit report upon the request of a lender.
Being blacklisted affects your credit score and can hinder you from getting loans and other types of credit from lenders. In this article, I will help you to learn how to check CRB status online in Kenya today.

How to check CRB status through Metropol
Metropol is an information and credit management company. It was established in Kenya in 1996 and is licensed by the Central Bank of Kenya to provide Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) Services to all banks in Kenya. The company also began providing credit rating services to the public in 2006.
Metropol can access the CRB checklist and inform you if you are on it. You can check your CRB status via the official Metropol website or app.
Metropol Crystobol app is downloadable from Google Play Store and App Store.
Steps to check your CRB status online:
- Visit the Metropol website to check your CRB status.
- Tap on "Click here to get your Credit Report and Certificate of Clearance."
- Sign in using your registered Safaricom number and a reference number.
- Download your CRB credit report from the website once you log in.
- It has your CRB status details. To get a reference number for signing into the Metropol website: Dial *433# using your registered Safaricom line.
- Select "Listing Status." Enter your National ID.
- Select "Confirm." Enter the ID of a Metropol agent (if you have been referred by one).
- Enter 0 if a Metropol agent has not referred you. Select "Confirm." Metropol Crystobol will request a KES 100 fee.
- Select a payment option (M-Pesa or request them to send you payment details via SMS). If you choose the M-Pesa payment option, you will be prompted to enter your M-Pesa Pin and wait to receive a reference number from Metropol Crystobol via SMS.
- Alternatively, pay the KES 100 via M-Pesa Paybill number 220388, with your ID number as the account number.
- You will receive a reference number from Metropol Crystobol via SMS.
- Use the mobile number and reference number to log into the Metropol CRB Checker page or website and download your CRB credit report. You will pay KES 250 to download the report.

You can check CRB status online in Kenya via the TransUnion CRB app, official website, or send an SMS to 21272.

Below are the CRB check online steps for those who want to use the TransUnion website:
- Visit the TransUnion website.
- Scroll down to "Know your score. Protect your credit." Click on "Get started."
- Fill out the form with personal details, mobile number, email, and address.
- Click on "I Accept & Continue to Step 2" and follow the prompts to get your credit score report.
- Your Credit report contains your CRB Status details.
How to check CRB status via TransUnion mobile app.
- Download the TransUnion Nipashe mobile app from Google Play Store or App Store.
- Provide your ID number and other personal details to register on the app.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to access your CRB status.
How to check your CRB through SMS?
- Text your full national ID name to 21272.
- Pay KES 50 registration fee to Safaricom Paybill number 212121 and your national ID number as the account number.
- Request your credit status, and you will get the information in seconds.
