Apply for a Passport in Kenya
Passport Application
You can apply for, renew or replace your Kenyan passport and pay for it online. Make sure you print out the form at the end. But before you do any of this, to apply for a passwport in Kenya, you must sign, after registering at the e-citizen portal, to your account, and date the form, add any documents or photographs that are needed, and return it for processing.
When making the passport application on eCitizen, ensure that you click the proper application type as follows:
- For first passport: NEW
- For passports that have expired or are full: REPLACEMENT
- For those who have changed their (sur)name: MODIFICATION
- For damaged passports: MUTILATED
- For lost passports: LOST
You’ll pay using mobile money, Credit, Debit Cards and online banking from local banks. It should take at least 10 working days to get your first passport once your form has been physically submitted at the Immigration offices. For all other application types, it should take at least 5 working days. It can take longer if more information is needed or your application hasn’t been filled out correctly.
HOW TO APPLY FOR A PASSPORT: NEW APPLICATION
- Register on ECitizen
- Go to Department of Immigration Services and click on the passport application form.
- Read the instructions carefully then fill the application form appropriately depending on type of passport that is needed.
- Select the mode of payment and pay for the passport fees.
- Download and PRINT the application form and three application receipts.
- Submit the application form in person to the Immigration offices. (Nyayo House in Nairobi, Mombasa & Kisumu.)
DURING THE SUBMISSION YOU WILL NEED THE FOLLOWING
- An eCitizen pre-filled passport application form and three receipts.
- Original birth certificate and photocopy. Only copies won’t suffice.
- Original National ID Card & copy. Only copies won’t suffice.
- Three Current passport size photos.
- Recommender’s ID Card copy. All passport applications must be recommended by the holder of a valid Kenyan passport or ID card, who is not related to the applicant. YOU CANNOT RECOMMEND YOURSELF, YOUR CHILD OR ANY OF YOUR RELATIVES!!!
- Consent letter for minors.
- Old passport for replacement and a copy of the same.
- Parents National ID cards and copy.
- When applying for a mutilated passport, provide a personal statement explaining circumstances for the damage and sworn affidavit to support the statement.
- If your passport is lost, provide a personal statement explaining the circumstances for loss and a sworn affidavit to support the same. Also, a police report on loss of passport not just the case number.
