With the current economic situation looking pale and gloomy, many sectors are hiring and the quit rates are high, amid the recent large-scale tech layoffs. More so in Africa, every other employee strives to work for the very best and here, we list the top 5 best African companies to work for in 2023 by Forbes.
Forbe's Employer Survey
Forbes compiled the list in partnership with the market research firm Statista to identify which companies offer exciting work and a positive environment to work in. To determine the company ranking, more than 170,000 employees in over 50 countries in about 700 companies who work for multinational companies and institutions were surveyed.
Respondents were asked if they would recommend their company to family or friends, and to rate their employer based on such criteria as:
- Talent development
- Remote working options
- Parental leave benefits
- Diversity
- Work-life balance
- Pride in the product or services the company offers

Forbes, the global media company which focuses on business recently listed the companies that fit the bill. The list tagged the World's Best Employers ranked companies all over the world that provide the best working environment for their employees.

To compile its seventh annual list of the World's Best Employers, Forbes teamed up with the market research firm Statista to determine which companies create a stimulating and ideal atmosphere.
Top African Employers
Out of all of Forbes 700 companies identified, only 7 (seven) were African: six from South Africa and another Kenya. With that said, below are 5 of Africa's best employers. The 6th and 7th companies in the Forbes list not listed below are South Africa's Mediclinic International at 652nd with 37,000 employees in the Healthcare & social industry and Sasol coming at 667th with 28,630 employees in the Construction, Oil & Gas Operations, Mining and Chemicals.
